A Candy-Coated Adventure Leads to a Sweet Lesson
A new twist on a classic fairy tale is imagined by David and his sister Rose when they pretend to be Hansel and Gretel.
They run away from home when their parents won’t buy them candy, and get lost in the forest. After a night alone, the hungry children are delighted to find a candy cottage. The Gingerbread Man living there has nothing to eat but candy. They soon learn that eating candy all the time isn’t quite as good as it sounds. At the same time, David and Rose learn that when “there’s nothing to do,” they can always have fun using their imagination!
“CANDY COTTAGE: A Hansel and Gretel Story by Jeanette Cole is a “sweet” and charming story about two children imagining they are in the classic fairy tale. This delightfully unique and colorfully-illustrated book allows children to use their imaginations, while teaching them a not-so-subtle lesson about what happens when eating too many sweets. A nice before bedtime read.”
